    THE RAKES: THE IDEA AND NAME CAME FROM PETE, JOE MACK AND STANLEY EDWARDS ALONG WITH BOBBY GRUBB, RALPH KING AND JIMMY MacNeice. THE ONLY REQUIREMENT TO BE A MEMBER WAS YOUR CAR HAD TO BE RAKED. THEY MET IN A GARAGE IN TAKOMA PARK, MD UNDER ONE OF THE BIG HOMES THERE. THEY WOULD HANG OUT AT THE MIGHTY MO IN QUEENSTOWN AND HOT SHOP IN LANGLEY PARK. AFTER THE CLUB WAS FORMED THEY HAD A MEMBER NAMED SONNY JOIN, WHO DROVE A BLACK & WHITE 1956 FORD CROWN VIC WITH CA PLATES. JOE SAID THEY LET HIM JOIN BECAUSE HIS CAR WAS NEAT AND HE WAS IN THE SERVICE STATIONED IN THE DC AREA. HE LATER BECAME THE TREASURER. ONE DAY SOMEONE SAID DID YOU HEAR ABOUT SONNY? HE GOT TRANSFERRED. JOE SAID THIS WAS GREAT BECAUSE HE TOOK THE $180 THAT THEY SAVED TO BUY A RADIO TO AUCTION OFF TO MAKE MONEY TO BUY A CLUB CAR FOR THE TRACK.

    LIST OF ORIGINAL MEMBERS AND THEIR CARS;

    JOE MACK-40 FORD COUPE WITH A 324 OLDS ENGINE
