The Atlanta Police Department said it arrested 44 people and impounded 29 vehicles during a crackdown on illegal street racing over the weekend
The operation also led to 114 citations and the seizure of four firearms, including a AR 15
“Arrests and citations included traffic offenses such as laying drag, speeding and reckless driving to other criminal offenses such as DUI, drinking in public, and possession of marijuana,” the Atlanta Police Department said. “One convicted felon was found to be in possession of a firearm and charged accordingly.”

the Z/28 on Mosteller's Garage in Chattanooga was a warning for 34 years to the local teens to not street race.
Sadly, a couple young guys were racing a truck, on July 7th 1978, and contact between them at high speed caused the car to flip up and out, and wrap all the way around a telephone pole, still embedded. The roof touches the floor, the hood and trunk lid touch each other.
the story on the 69:
Rivals at Central High went to go race. A 56 Chevy truck that hadn't been beat and the other was this 69 Z/28 , with two boys 16 and 15 years old, the driver lived in Hixson and the passenger lived near the lake off Kings Point Rd
They started at Germantown headed East on South Terrace.
They were followed by a guy in a Road Runner, his story:
As we topped the hill, I backed out of it because of the traffic light ahead. The Camaro was slightly ahead and hit his brakes just as the truck was changing lanes. (the road is said to have a bump in it) The truck clipped the bumper of the Z-28 and it simply went into the air sideways. I estimate they were going around 90-95 mph because I was still doing 80 and slowing down.
The car slid on it's passenger side right into the pole instantly knocking out the power in the area. The sound was like a sonic boom. The truck slid just off the road onto the sidewalk.
The driver was hanging half out of the car and the passenger was bunched up in the floor, they were both removed and taken to East Ridge Hospital. Other than being bloody, they were intact and really did not look that bad.
The headlights were still on and the radio was playing and that made it kind of spooky.
The fire department pried open the trunk and tore into the back seat to see if anyone was in the back seat in spite of us telling them nobody else was in the car. The wrecker tried several times to pull the car off the pole with no luck.
They cut it top and bottom.
The driver of the truck was brought up on charges of vehicular homicide. The police began a major crackdown on drag racing after this ending an era that had gone on since the 60's.
In those days Brainerd road was the place to be on Friday night. We would cruise all night, park in Jubilee parking lot and drink beer, do burn outs, head over to the drive in and check out the cars, go to the Cotton Patch... just had a lot of fun.
East Ridge Tn, South Terrace, intersection of Belvoir Rd and South Terrace and that was the 2nd pole before the on ramp to I-75.
One of the kid's mom said this:
As the mother of one of the boys, I can tell you what really happened.
On July 8, 1978, several boys had gotten together in East Ridge and when it was time to go home, they all left and went down South Terrace.
In the Camaro were 2 boys, the driver being 16 ( going to Hixson High) and the passenger being 15 (going to Tyner). They had gone to school together at Ooltewah in the past.
The truck and the Camaro, got their bumpers tangled on South Terrace right at Bacon Trail. The Camaro spun and went airborne and hit the telephone pole top first and wrapped around it - tail lights to head lights.
They got the boys out by 2 wreckers pulling the cars apart and they were taken to Erlanger ER. They were both dead at the scene.
The car was taken to Mosteller's garage and placed in their lot. There were so many teens who knew them both that went to see the car that they pushed the fence down twice, so Mostellers put the car on top of the building to keep their fence in tact.
They just buried this car after the 34th anniversary of the crash, in 2012 buried the whole car.

Some hooning sports cars were pulled over by Canadian police in southern Ontario in April after other motorists phoned in complaints, leading to 12 stunt driving charges.
The collection of pricey cars, some of which were hauled away on tow trucks, included Ferraris, Porsches, and AMG Mercedes. One white Lamborghini was decked out in a Royal Canadian Air Force decal, another on the driver-side window read “Let me guess, license and registration?”
Several OPP detachments co-ordinated roadblocks on Highway 400 near Barrie, Ont., lying in wait to force the convoy to pull over at a service station. Those who were charged face seven-day driving suspensions and a minimum $2,000 fine.
“We had reports of some speeds over 150.” said Const. Randal Haddrall.
The 12 drivers were part of an extreme car enthusiast club called “North Face Rally.” A lawyer for the group suggested the claims about dangerous driving are overblown and that his clients were treated “aggressively” by police.
“They did get intercepted at the wrong place at the wrong time,” lawyer Amedeo DiCarlo told CP24. “I think what had happened is that some witnesses had called in about cars driving fast. I mean if you’re driving on the 400 doing 80 kilometres an hour and somebody passes by doing 110 and you see it’s a Lamborghini or Ferrari, right away ‘oh that guy’s speeding’ and you know they claim those as witnesses. Mind you there are no witnesses. Police are asking for witnesses.”
Fifteen drivers were officially charged with stunt driving under the Highway Traffic Act on Friday.
The case will be back before a judge on Sept. 1.

a Challenger and a Charger noticed each other on the I 5, and began racing each other... then shit happened, a chain of events, and 3 are dead
The Challenger slammed into the UPS truck, causing the big rig to flip over the median, smash into oncoming traffic and explode. The big rig collided with a gray Nissan, sheared its top off and came to rest atop of a red Ford Explorer.
Lockhart has a history of excessive speeding. In 2012, he was convicted in San Bernardino County of driving faster than 100 mph, court records show. In 2014, he was convicted of speeding in Utah, according to the DMV. He was also involved in a car accident in November in Whittier, DMV officials said.
In the crash just after midnight Saturday, one of the racing vehicles slammed into a UPS truck, causing the big rig to flip over the median, smash into oncoming traffic and explode. The big rig collided with a gray Nissan, shearing its top off, and came to rest atop a red Ford Explorer.
The county coroner identified two of the three victims: Brian Lewandowski, 18, and Michelle Littlefield, 19, both of Valencia. The third victim has yet to be identified. But Teamsters Local 396, a labor union, posted on Facebook on Sunday morning that UPS truck driver Scott Treadway was one of the people who died in the accident.

why the hell are they racing at 4 in the damn morning? They hate their beds? "Nothing good happens after 2am" is a true statement
While filming the show "Street Outlaws" for the Discovery Channel, Brian Davis lost control of his race car and tagged the quarterpanel of the GTO Judge, and both are effed up. Both drivers in the hospital, I hope someone examines their head for leaks and brain damage. Race while the sun is up you dummies. Get some damn sleep when it's 4am.
the driver of the GTO Judge, Justin Shearer, is reported to have crushed vertebrae, broken collarbone, and damaged lungs and shoulders. https://www.facebook.com/thecrow405/posts/684957828306656
The car he's had since age 16 is far more damaged.

Before it was totalled, it looked like this:

If you, like me, don't watch every stupid tv show that they invent every year, here's a synopsis of what the show "Street Outlaws" is about: Bragging rights to having the fastest street racing car in Oklahoma City, and getting on “The List.”
Justin Chearer "Big Chief" because of his 482cu in Pontiac, runs “The List,” a tally of the 10 best street racers in OKC. If you want to move up a spot, you’ve got to challenge someone else who’s ranked - and win.

Late night/early morning LA street racing (driving without a license if you look at the facts) gets busted by the cops: 209 diving without a license, 44 arrests, and 54 vehicles were impounded
The operation launched late Sunday around midnight, but really, 2 hours into Monday morning, near West Imperial Highway and Broadway when sheriff’s deputies and CHP officers swooped into the area and trapped about 250 to 300 cars that had arrived for illegal street races, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Authorities had been monitoring smaller local races from a helicopter and saw the vehicles converge on the area about 12:30 a.m. Monday, but the operation had been planned for about a week, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies arrested 44 people for warrants or drug-related crimes
cited 209 others for driving without a valid license,
and towed 54 vehicles.
The only legal dragstrip (until it becomes a shopping center next year) in Orange and Los Angeles Counties is Irwindale. The next closest is Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. What we need right now is a new Mickey Thompson carving a dragstrip out of the hundreds of empty warehouse districts near Long Beach, just like Lions Dragstrip in 1955 -1972... but that was closed through a poltical boondoggle to root out the dragstrip so the real estate could be profitted from.
The abandoned track location sat fallow for over 10 years until it was eventually developed into the mega container facility by the L.A. Harbor Commission. The surrounding area still remains largely industrial to this very day with much the same residential borders that were present in the early 1970's
Lions was the dragstrip used in the corny "get the kids to stop street racing" episode of Adam 12 http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2014/02/who-won-get-kids-to-stop-drag-racing-on.html
43 years later - street racing is still the only way to enjoy drag racing cars, BECAUSE corrupt politicians and universal greedy developers have connived to kill every dragstip in Southern California. Not a single governor has seen the wisdom in setting a dragstrip park as an off limits to developers piece of land, for drag racing in perpetuity, and operating it as a state park. California Drag Racing memorial park. Where else is drag racing's roots and evolution as fixed?
The perfect location? Orange County Great Park, formerly El Toro Marine Corps base. Doug Herbert has a safe driving course for teens there, and it's an enormous paved and flat area that doesn't need much for a dragstip. http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-variety-of-cars-at-2013-run-to-cost.html
Unfortunately, the ballsy bastards that once let it all hang out are senior citizens, or dead (Mickey was murdered by a greedy business associate, Big Willie died of age and infection in 2012) and though some are rich, not rich enough to pull off creating a 1/4 mile, or even 1/8th mile drag strip in So Cal.
Not even the tribes that are getting casino profits are willing to create a 1/4 mile epic dragstrip on the res, and out of the reach of US lawmakers. The only dragstrips on a res that I know of are Barona 1/8th mile. 30 miles East of San Diego. http://www.baronadrags.com/ and the sand drags at the Soboda res, in Hemet 85 Miles North East of San Diego http://www.socalsanddrags.com/
Beeline Dragway was on a res... http://www.ghosttownaz.info/beeline-dragway.php and was a famous dragstrip in Arizona from 1963 to 1980's... but nothing remains but the graffiti and timing tower
this is just one week after this article: http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Police-Seek-Regional-Alliance-to-Combat-Street-Racing-Scourge-299294281.html
"Amid a resurgence of deadly street racing crashes, and the looming closure of a sanctioned dragstrip that has provided a safer alternative to street racing, the Los Angeles Police Department is spearheading an effort to create a "regional alliance to combat these deadly events."
Or they were just bullshitting the news people and getting the plan together for this sting.

"Who Won" the "get-the-kids-to-stop-street-racing" episode of Adam 12
see it on Hulu for the admission price of 3 commercials per break. Good time to check your email, facebook, etc http://www.hulu.com/watch/46171
the show is gaggingly contrived, as if cops wrote it with no clue as to when entertainment and sledgehammer PSA messages don't mix, but it must have satisfied the head mucky mucks in broadcasting at the time to be on the high moral ground... as I'm pretty sure it only irritates anyone looking for entertainment, a show on drag racing, a cop show, detective work show, etc etc. Dick Clark as the head of police? Sheesh. Total 180 from the teen friendly image as American Bandstand "Americas oldest teenager" image he'd built for years
Some where among the episodes, they had a Hemi Daytona, here is the sales slip:
