the coolest thing I've seen all week, VW Heritage has this display in their showroom, thanks to Andy! Marketing Manager at VW Heritage
Kudos to Andy! In just moments after I found the Facebook page, and send out a blind request for photos of this display, he had taken all these photos and sent them back! Ain't that the coolest!

What hot rodders do when they want to build a model car?

http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2007show/07coachmen/ has 8 pictures after the link
It all started from
The St. Joe Valley Street Rod Club, with members located in the South Bend, Indiana... created a display, including the box, that replicates an early 1960's AMT plastic 3-in-1 model kit of a 1940 Ford coupe, using an actual '40 Ford and associated car parts and kit building items (paint bottles, glue tube, etc.).
A "tree" one of two, was created to hold actual flathead engine parts, including a block and heads. The second tree replicates one that held chrome parts such as nerf bars, bumpers and wheel covers.
