Mark took a head from a Hercules Bristol bomber aircraft (3 liter, sleeve valve) and designed his own bottom end and gearbox to power his chopper (thanks Kim!)

2800cc sleeve valve cylinder from a radial aircraft engine, fitted into bespoke homemade crank case, and cradled in a frame and forks made by a Raw Steel Choppers Ltd.

The Bugatti U-16 was a 16-cylinder water-cooled double-8 vertical inline "U engine", designed by Ettore Bugatti in 1915 to 1916 and built in France in small numbers. 

The US Bolling Commission bought a license to build the engine in the US, and small numbers of a slightly revised version were built by the Duesenberg Motor Company as the King-Bugatti. Probably about 40 King-Bugattis were made before the end of World War I caused contracts to be canceled.

The Fiat AS.6 24-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine for the Schneider Trophy seaplane races in 1931was able to roar again after more than 80 years of silence, and 5500 hours of work to get it running again

Horace Dodge's v16

In 1954, Dodge ran three boats; the new "John Frances My Sweetie", the "Dora My Sweetie", and the "second" "My Sweetie". By some miracle, all three of his boats made the final heat of the 1954 Detroit Silver Cup and, at one point, were running 1, 2 and 3. The "Dora" won the race. This was Horace's last major win.

the Dyson company bought the engine in 2014, and Michael Hummil, a research engineer for Dyson fired it up at Goodwood this year

The young man in the wheelchair in the photo working on M/T's Indy car in front of the garage in Gsoline Alley is Larry Burton. He built much of the car and was a super mechanic. He contacted polio in his early 20's, never recovered the use of his legs, and passed away in 2016, at the age of 80
