A plan to create one of the East Coast's largest skateparks (backed by Tony Hawk's foundation) is getting pushback from locals who don't want to see the green space replaced with poured concrete.

Then move to the country you morons. Let the kids have a place to practice their sports. I've never heard of city people bitching about another tennis court, basketball court, yoga studio, 24 hour Fitness.... you know?

Kurt Cobain owned a hand-painted skateboard that pays homage to Iron Maiden, that Tony Hawk now owns, and is going to do something newsworthy with, next Monday to raise awareness for emotional health, and to help provide resources for those who are struggling mentally.

Kurt Cobain was an avid painter, and one of his most notable works was a hand-painted Jeff Phillips model skateboard that pays homage to Iron Maiden. Sadly, Phillips, who was a skateboarder, died by suicide in 1993 just three months before the Nirvana frontman took his own life. Since Cobain's death, the board has been passed on to different owners, with the most recent being Tony Hawk. The legendary skateboarder bought the piece of art at auction last year and has some special plans for it. He teased that he'll be using it to raise awareness for emotional health, and is going to share more details on Monday (February 20), which would've been Cobain's 56th birthday.

"I bought this skateboard at an auction last year. It is an original Jeff Phillips model, hand painted by Kurt Cobain in 1985. Two icons that had immense influence on their respective fields, both of whom passed away tragically and much too young. I even tracked down the original owner to understand its provenance," Hawk wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the skateboard. "With the incomparable help of @dupedupe, we are hoping to make something good of this acquisition by raising awareness for emotional health, and to help provide resources for those who are struggling mentally. More to come on February 20 (Kurt’s birthday)."

Fyi, Tony Hawk's documentary is on HBO max, and if you get hit in the feels over parents and their kids, maybe bring a kleenex, 'cause they spend some time on his visit with his mom

 and later in the documentary it gets into the messy life of a megastar, which, you might not recall, he was about 15 years ago or so, when he made the Boom Boom Huck Jam Tour of 2008

So, keep in mind, this is a documentary about the entire world of Tony Hawk, the competitions, the marriages and divorces, relationships with parents and kids, sales and contracts, the jubilation and depression of being addicted to the life of a worldwide celeb, and the injuries of the lifetime of a professional extreme skater.

I'm just saying, there's a wide range of what's in the documentary. But it doesn't cover some of the FUN stuff he's done, and it never touches on his work to make skate parks happen. I suppose the producer/director wanted the focus of his film to be dramatic instead... but, I like the news I've done on Tony. I'm not into drama. 

Tony Hawk broke a leg on Monday, snapped the femur in half. Ironically, a month before his new documentary "Until The Wheels Fall Off" is released on HBO - that details how and why he's continued to skate into his 50s.

In 2002, he founded the Tony Hawk Foundation, now referred to as The Skatepark Project, which helps to build skateparks in underprivileged areas around the country as a response to the lack of safe and legal skateparks in the States. In 2015, Hawk’s foundation venture received the Robert Wood Johnson Sports award. It’s also worth noting that he joined with many other athletes to form the Athletes For Hope charity to inspire others to volunteer and support their local communities.

The Skatepark Project, formerly the Tony Hawk Foundation, is a skateboarding organization that helps communities build public skate parks for youth in underserved communities, so far, they've funded about 640 skate parks 

To-date, almost 600 recipients of grants from The Skatepark Project have opened their skateparks. These parks receive more than 6-million visits annually by youth who benefit from the active lifestyle and camaraderie the facilities promote.

After receiving thousands of e-mails from parents and children across America who did not have a safe, legal place to skate and in some cases arrested for skating on public property, Tony Hawk decided to establish a nonprofit organization whose mission would be to serve this population. He wanted to help them develop quality places to practice the sport that gives them much needed exercise and a sense of self-esteem. So in 2002 he established the Tony Hawk Foundation, financed the organization with a personal gift, and assembled a Board of Directors that represents a diverse range of backgrounds and expertise.
