Victoria (Australia) Police detectives have helped make a woman's dreams come true when yesterday they reunited 74-year old Carol with her 1973 Holden Torana (she used to rally drive) that was stolen way back in 1992

The genuine bright pink Torana GTR XU1 – a car now worth over $150,000 – was discovered as part of an investigation into a vehicle re-birthing syndicate which would restore and modify stolen performance cars, including altering the VIN, before passing them off as genuine to unsuspecting buyers.

After years of painstaking work into uncovering and busting the syndicate, Detective Senior Constable Brett Florence – a noted car enthusiast himself who headed the investigation into the syndicate when he was attached to the Vehicle Crime Squad in 2014 – was able to get in touch with one of these unsuspecting buyers who had bought a number of the unknowingly stolen cars the syndicate had sold between 2008 and 2011, and one of those he'd purchased was Carol's XU1.

the damage sustained by a prized muscle car that was aboard the container ship Rena. The 1972 Holden Monaro GTS, the pride and joy of ex-pat Troy Levien, was in one of around 2000 containers that were aboard the ship when it hit the Astrolabe Reef off the coast of Tauranga in October 2011.

The Rena struck the reef, off the coast of Tauranga, on October 5, 2011. It subsequently broke up, spilling containers and more than 300 tonnes of heavy fuel oil.

Troy later reported in June 2012... "Sad news I'm afraid. I have just seen a pic of my monaro and its not good, the container has collapsed on top of the roof of the car and its been underwater, so you were right its a total loss. Worse still is I have no insurance due to a communication mix up....can this get any worse..."

Get another look at Australian cars! It was all Aussie Day at Lakeside Park in Kurwongbah, and Darryl hooked us up with a big gallery of the variety of Australian cars not made anywhere else

thanks to Darryl Smith, who is making it hard for Canadians to keep a reputation for being the nicest people around.

No Canadian has offered to share photos of pure Canadian cars yet! (That... wow, that is just a subtle way to provoke some wonderful Labatt or Moosehead beer drinker to share the cool unique cars that GM made there in the 60s)
