Pretty as a pair of lace panties! Interesting story of its origin. The Brits approached Curtiss in a effort to purchase P-40's. Curtiss said they were at full capacity, but agreed to have someone else build the plane under license if the Brits could find someone to do it. They went to North American and those folks told the Brits they could build a better plane than the P-40. The Brits said, "OK, " and about 100 days after the contract ink was dry NAA delivered the prototype. The rest, as is said, is history.
