the New York, Ontario & Western started nowhere, avoided all large industrial centers, and only hauled coal from anthracite mines which eventually were mined out and folded up, the earnings of the road fell off so rapidly that the railroad was useless, and doomed
None of the rail line exists or was used after it's abandonment, none of it's steam locomotives escaped the cutting torch, and only one diesel locomotive (a GE 44-tonner) survived
a lot of money wasted.
ReplyDeleteWould not the coal be hauled to the Large Industrial centers? Where else would you take coal?
ReplyDeletethe small industrial centers, and railroad coal storage and sales, I suppose. Keep in mind, I get the text and images from the source I link to at the end of every post. I don't have more info, or create the post from my own knowledge, I only copy what is provided, and normally can't answer questions about it
