Let's hear it for Satch! There's a story of Louie going into a French cafe' in Paris one time, not knowing a lick of French. The waiter, recognizing Satch, tells him he (the waiter) is a fan. Satch, not understanding a word that was said simply smiled and said, "Solid man." 10 minutes later the waiter is back with a salad. Satchmo's response ? "Solid man." 10 minutes later here comes another salad. I read his biography in 1956 and have always remembered the 'salad' incident, although don't recall how many salad cycles he went through or how it ended.
Porgy and Bess comes to mind. Over the years I've become partial to Satch singing and playing with Jack Teagarden. Old Rockin' Chair (Hoagy Carmichael), one of my favorites...on YouTube.
Brilliant t shirt, but when I think of my welds I'd never have the nerve to wear it.

DeleteOne of my favorite albums is Ella and Armstrong's duet albums. They may have made one, or more than one, I dunno, but the one I found is great
