  1. It’s a system of hot vulcanization for section repair. Think of a tire with a large ‘flat-spot’or perhaps a large hole-rupture. They’d buff the area evenly down and then fill the area with rubber. Then place the hot saddle apparatus, which heats and presses the rubber in place. Once cured the tire can move over for recapping for its new tread rubber

  2. Looks like he is vulcanizing a repair. My grandfather used to do this as an official tire repair center during WWII. He usually used a bladder that went inside and inflated to press the tire against a shaped steel collar. These guys have the inflatable bladder outside.

  3. I think that is a machine for regrooving truck tires. Usually only used on trailer tires.

  4. When was the last time you saw anyone wearing "saddle shoes"..much less a tyre tech?
