1) getting an extra 5 quarts of oil for the new commuter so that when doing an oil change, first there will be draining of the black old oil,
then running 5 new quarts to get ALL the old filthy oil out of all the areas that wont't drain, mixed in with the fresh new oil, THEN drain it and store it for the next oil change.
Then fill with more 5 quarts of fresh new oil.
So, none wasted, just 5 quarts getting used briefly to flush ALL the old oil out, then stored until next oil change.
Why? less particles in the new oil wearing down bearing and cylinders, for each and every oil change. I tell you, the oil looks dirty to me after an oil change, and that both makes me mad and defeats the efficiency of an oil change
2) running diesel engine oil in muscle car engines for the added phosphorus in that zinc additive... but you can NOT use this with a catalytic converter
Yes, my brain is focused on thinking about this shit instead of how to get a university degree or a better paying job.
So, if you ever wonder, wtf is this guys problem, why is he always broke?
Well, there you have it, there's part of the problem. Some people are focused on profits, investments, and how to get rich.
Umm, I'm the old dumbass that gets a brain full of endorphins on cool car stuff, art, and photography.

yeah...sigh...that makes two of us Jesse...
ReplyDeleteMy name is Dino, and I'm a certified car nut.
Hi Jesse welcome to the club! There is no 12 step program because there is no cure....Thank God!
ReplyDeletePlease let me introduce myself, I'm Jack, I'm 61 years old, I have two jobs, 3 hobby cars(1971 Karmann Ghia 1971 AMC Javelin 1979 Lincoln Town Coupe that I'm converting into a pickup) my drivers are a 2003 Mercedes C320 that I bought on the way to a junk yard for $273.00 and a 2006 Caravan that I bought at auction for $820. so ya broke, sure! love cars always. And I thank you for all the great things that you post.
you say welcome to? Hell, I've been here a while, I just don't get to many meetings because
DeleteI've been busy with this blog since I got out of the Navy. And back then, I was busy bring my 69 Super Bee back from decades of neglect
Jesse, don't be so hard on yourself. You are in good company my friend. Your blog has been a blessing to many of us.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely it is. I feel very sad when Jesse talks about stop blogging. It's part of my daily routine!
Deleteafter these 14 years, it's gotten more difficult to find the fun stuff, more time consuming to keep looking, and since I try o avoid reposting anything - there is a lot of great stuff I'll never post again. Plus, beyond that, life is getting tougher, and the motivation to keep going is harder to find. As I get older, I want to get to my poetry book project http://better-than-palgrave.blogspot.com/ while my parents can still appreciate my thanking them for helping me appreciate reading. Hell, my generation are now grandparents. My parents aren't going to be around much longer. I need to get started on that soon, in order to finish while they are still alive to get the respect I have for them about bringing me up with reading books
DeleteYou know?
life is complicated like that, and I still need to set aside a year or two to learn to play acoustic guitar. Focused, fulltime no distraction by a job type focus on learning music, and playing guitar. From the fundamentals, to the theory of music, and guitar playing, etc
DeleteI use diesel engine oil on my 74 Chevrolet Opala and on my 74 VW Bug. And I'll be doing this in the next oil change because it makes all sense!
ReplyDeletewell that makes something I've come up with, actually useful! Nice! If anyone asks what came out of this quarantine, THAT will be it!
DeleteHardly muscle cars, but it's not uncommon for Land Rover Disco 1 & 2 owners to run the Dextron synthetic diesel oil in our rigs. Helps with the steel sleeves in the aluminum block....That 4.0 is magical right from its inception...lol.
