43 of the 45 people involved were injured, the other two died.
Don't be in a hurry to get into a crash, waste all the time it takes to just go on down the freeway until the next exit
Worst timing of any possible, a New Jersey dumptruck from a ridiculously unsafe trucking company https://nypost.com/2018/05/17/truck-company-involved-in-deadly-school-bus-crash-has-dark-history ran into it. That company had 238 fines and tickets in just the past two years, 1 every 3 days on average for 730 days straight

As a former school bus driver and bus driver instructor, I find it interesting that nothing is mentioned in the news article about the bus driver and their responsibility in this tragic event.
ReplyDeleteAs bad as the trucking's history may be, the fault in this accident seems quite clearly to be with the school bus driver.
It's pretty smart to avoid blaming the dead. At least, I figure if he isn't dead yet, some family member of the 37 injured kids will kill him soon.
DeleteI didn't hold back, I too have driven a bus... not for school kids thank god, but for my damn shipmates when we spent a couple years in fucking dry dock. The barracks were on the far side of the harbor, Pearl Harbor, from shipyard, and the best way to get the whole crew to work on time was by bus, as they simply don't have room for parking lots on that damn island
anyway, there it is, I wasn't afraid to blame the bus driver.
DeleteWhat I find interesting, and discouraging, is how no one seems to have mentioned how easily the entire body of the bus just popped off the chassis! It looks like the body was just sitting on the chassis with a few U bolts holding it in place!
ReplyDeleteIt's strange to see the total removal of the body from the frame. The news on the radio was talking about that...
DeleteThat is odd. It would be interesting to pick the brain of someone who does engineering for Bluebird, et. al. to find out what this is about. Do they have parts that are supposed to fail in certain circumstances since a bus cannot have crumple zones per se? Corrosion? Poor maintenance?
DeleteI seriously doubt there was anything wrong with the school bus that caused the body to "pop" off the frame.
DeleteI mean think about it. The bus is a body on frame design and it just got hit broadside by a 15 ton dump truck hauling 15 tons of material and probably traveling at least 60mph.
In this kind of instance the body is going to separate from the frame.
Apparently the dead are a student and a chaperone so the driver must have survived. Now they can crucify his stupid ass.
ReplyDeleteYeah, 1) its illegal 2) even if it weren't an illegal turn it would be a stupid thing to do with a 45 passenger bus 3) he has the lives of 43 people as his responsibility, trying to do a hole shot with that beast is sheer negligence.
