My father had to do that more than once. The team of horses didn't get much work in the wintertime and mostly ate, so eventually they had to go.
ReplyDeleteHayburners that weren't working enough to earn the food? Probably the reason most horses went away when cars and tractors became affordable
DeleteYes, tractors worked all day and didnt get tired, and didn't consume anything when they weren't working.
DeleteGreat group of photos BTW, brought some good memories. Our family album was full of pictures from the 30's and 40's with relatives next to old coupes and sedans covered in country road dust and mud.
ReplyDeleteGreat! Over the past couple of days I've pieced together this photo gallery, I didn't know it was from a series of photos... but, why wouldn't it be? That photographer was in the middle of no-where with nothing to do but take photos until his ride was pulled out, and the mail route was completed for the day
