Retired Ford designer, Howard “Buck” Mook, is absolutely proud of the 1974 Mustang II because it was one of the best selling Mustangs ever, 386,000 of them, the most of any Mustangs since 1968 and one of the best years ever in the car’s now half century history.
Let's take a moment to admire what Mook drew, which is far closer to the AMX3 than the 1974 Mustang II
His resume includes some Ford’s F series trucks and while still in design school he helped customizing great Dean Jeffries create the Monkeemobile and Green Hornet Black Beauty television cars. Buck was responsible for the three-door fastback shape of the Mustang II (Dick Nesbitt drew the notchback variant).
"I must have been 9 or 10 years old when my parents gave me a book all about Ford car designs," Mook said. "Since then all I wanted to do was design cars and I set out with that mission in my mind growing up."
At 69, Mook remembers how integral the car was throughout his life.
"My parents started one of the very first car clubs in 1947," said Mook. "Cars were always around and a big part of my life."
