yes he did! He sure did, he was so focused on the reel he wasn't looking at how close he got to the barrier. The first time I watched the video I wasn't sure what that was... but it's clear after seeing the video a couple times
Spools are especially tricky to tie down. It's tempting to use straps, but that's how this happens. You have to use chains. Copper is incredibly heavy, and something about the load's ability to rock back and forth causes it to break free. Among truckers it's common lore... never tie down a spool with a strap.
