Ah, but in the old days a ZIL would have made the list too.
ReplyDeleteIn East Germany the leaders had wisened up a bit, and - seeing that bying West German Mercedes limos would be kind of embarrassing - got themselves a fleet of Volvos instead. In due course the town of Wandlitz, where the party leaders had their Little gated community, was referred to as 'Volvograd' by the proletariat.
