Darryl Dixon, 36, of Philadelphia, was driving a 2011 Freightliner hauling 45,000 pounds of seed corn, township police Lt. Rob Eachus said.
“The tractor-trailer was in the left lane and for unknown reasons failed to stop,” he said. “We believe the driver tried to take some corrective measure, swerving to the right before impact.”
Dixon’s trailer clipped the back of another tractor-trailer driven by Robert E. Naugle, 30, of Shippensburg, which was stopped in the left lane, Eachus said.
Dixon’s tractor then hit the back of a pickup truck driven by David Russell Ebling, 31, of York, which was stopped in the right lane.
The tractor then hit a Cadillac car driven by Milton Jerome Myrick, 48, of Basil Street, Marietta, that was stopped in a third traffic lane, a right-turn lane leading to Oakview Road.
Dixon’s tractor then struck and sheared two utility poles, dragging down wires and knocking out traffic signals before stopping, Eachus said.
