teaching patience, and swears

  1. It appears to be a Max-Wedge, push-button shift car. Those crazy guys back then would duct-tape their index finger out straight to assist in hitting the buttons as perfect as possible. Some would mash the pedal to the floor then "poke" the "First" button.....BAM!!! I drag raced torqueflites for years, but never used this method.

Transbrakes are the modern version of this launching process....but it's also less violent, and much safer. I never had a single failure while launching with transbrakes. Transbrakes work by the driver manually placing the shifter in "First", then depressing a button that (electronical-over-hydraulic) places the valve body into "Reverse" at the same time. The suspension immediately settles.....relaxes, but is locked in place as if it were in "Park". The driver brings up the RPM's (usually controlled by a pre-set rev-limiter) then releases the button for launch.

If you've never launched a car using a transbrake, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. It's a lot of fun!
