  1. How could this possibly have happened? There must have been some mental illness or a divorce or a death in this story somewhere. These things were immediately valuable when they were first sold to the public. It does remind me of the story from a few years back about one of the Lightweight E-Types that got caught in the middle of a divorce and ended up being vandalized by the guy who owned it so that it would be appraised at a lower value by his wife's attorney. Just a little light grinding on the paint as I recall..

    1. well, the first post, here in this post is the link, tells the story as the fireman bought the GT 40, raced it for a couple years, and when the trans failed, he parked it in the garage and never got back to fixing it. Things got piled on it, and it became a fixture in the garage. Years went by, decades went by, and it just got dustier, older, and more valuable. It's not the most incredible GT 40 story. The best is Dean Jefferies getting a real GT 40 for a dollar. One of four http://www.motortrend.com/classic/features/c12_0511_dean_jeffries_interview/stunt_career.html it was just layin around a warehouse, he asked about it, they offered it to him. It was just a race car they couldn't do anything with it, as the racing rules changed.

    2. I just noticed your website is misspelled. There is a letter R instead of the 2nd T
