This is what I keep trying to explain to people every time I see some unthinking grandpa giving his grandkids rides on public roads in the family golf car that our local authorities have arbitrarily deemed legal for public road travel, despite it's lack of any safety equipment. ...And yes, I did just compare a 2CV to a golf car...
But not surprisingly the 2CV still was a rather safe car to drive. While secondary safety - as in what happens in a crash - wasn't impressive, primary safety was excellent: Superior handling combined with so little power that people would not get themselves into speed related trouble.
