I'm happy to stumble across one of the few strange category of cars that I've only ever posted about once, the Navy fighter pilot squadron car (another category car is the horse racing pacing and starter gate car)

ReplyDeleteI have been told by former sailors that they can load personal stuff like autos, furniture and such on their ship when it is returning to home port. Knew a guy that brought a car back from Europe that way.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of cars on aircraft carriers, my cousin told me a story once about when he was on the USS Kitty Hawk in the early 70's.
ReplyDeleteEvidently the Captain had a sense of humor because he arranged to have a Buick catapult-launched into the San Diego Bay.

DeleteI don't understand why, and someday when they next dredge the channel through the bay, as they do every so often, they'll snag the Buick, and wonder what the hell got it into the middle of the bay
