just became a showpiece in a Chevrolet dealership, for 48 hours, and they already have a buyer lined up at 50k. No PS, PB, no stick shift, but a lot of resale red fresh paint. 50k for a simple Road Runner. Wow. I think someone is crazy to spend that much.
update a week later, it's already on Mecum's auction website. Someone is flipping this fast
Not really they are the coolest Mopar and they stopped making them many moons ago.
ReplyDeleteI am quite knowledgeable about the Road Runner, and when they stopped making them, each body style specifically...
DeleteBut, you're feeling that 50k is a fair price? Wow. Maybe I'm undervaluing plain simple Mopars that aren't very special.
Sure, one that is restored is mighty fine, but, 50k for a base model ordinary RR?
So, I suppose when you say they are the coolest, I ought to ask you why you feel this way.
I'm thinking that a lot of other Mopars are cooler, and the A12 Road Runner, well, that's cooler simply because of the additional power, 3 carbs, stick shift, and that hood!
Also, the GTX was cooler, and the Super Bird.
That's just two cooler birds, without even addressing your specific mention of "coolest Mopar", which shows you decided that Chrysler and Dodge, and Plymouth, never made a cooler mass produced car.
Not even the racey Super Stocks? The aluminum fendered hemi race cars?
Not the Hurst Super Stock Dart or Barracuda?
Really? Were you quick to judge without thinking through all the cool Mopars?
Or, did you, and you are sure that the coolest was the simple basic street racing Road Runner? A bench seat automatic at that.
I'd really like to discuss this with you, and hope you would not mind my getting your thoughts on these questions.
Coolest because they aren't everyone's first pick.Coolest because they don't need a bunch of vinyl stripes to say so.Road runner was the best ever name. Orange and black was the best colour combo.50k seems more than reasonable.A resto without the base cost could swallow up the asking price.
Deleteyou do see the vinyl stripes across the hood, ironically, don't you?
DeleteThe A12 Road Runner didn't have vinyl stripes, but had the 4 speed and 440 six pack
It really was genius to use the Road Runner name and image
I'm partial to yellow and black myself, for my R/T has the scat pack stripes, which represent a bee, and the plates are black with yellow alpha numeric.
Very yellow and black.
Thanks for your reply!
The value is driven upward by the " find me another one for less factor '
ReplyDeletethat is a very astute point, and the cost of the restoration probably had a lot to do with the price they are asking for. Painting alone, that's probably 10-15. I've posted a lot of restorations, and when not farmed out, and done all in the garage, a restoration is often 25k - just materials.
