Love it! About 60 miles north of me and on the east side of The Hudson River is Rhinebeck, NY and the Rhinebeck Aerodrome where on weekends in good weather in warm months these old planes are flown. Fascinating visit with four hangars filled with old craft.
ReplyDeleteAn amazing collection; cars, bikes, traction engines etc. as well as aircraft. They have a 1909 Bleriot XI which is claimed to be the world's oldest aircraft/engine combination still flying. Like their 1910 Deperdussin it does straight hops along the runway on calm summer evenings.
ReplyDeleteOther aircraft, like their stunningly beautiful Hawker biplane fighter bombers, get a much more spirited workout, all on a friendly grass airfield where the spectator fence is about 5 feet from the parked exhibits.
