NICE T-bird, a good example of wasting more money on your ideal version of a car, than anyone at auction will pay when you decide to sell it once it's finished (stupid)

  1. These 'birds' looked like a rocket ship, and were such a great platform for customizing. We had such style back then. Today? Well shit.

    1. you nailed it. Like Ian showed when he put a bubble top on that Bird.
I think the cost of doing anything has prevented us from doing anything with style.
In the 60s, you could do anything with a Bug. Make a dune buggy, a Baja bug, a low rider, etc... cheap.
Ditto the vans of the 70s. Rolling billboards for artists
But the cost of paint even put Earl Scheib out of business.
Kids used to be able to afford to mess with cars, as teens.
Now? Kids can't even afford the gas. Not to mention the insurance.
Hell, registration of my 69 Dodge is about 100. That's just stupid.

  2. If someone has the $ and wants to build the car they want- its their car. Resale at auction is negligible. 80% of the cars sold at auction are selling well below the cost of the build. If you watched B/J on Friday... dozen of NICE cars sold in the $30K range which were easily 40-60K builds. However, to the point of this custom T-bird.. did you see on B/J Sat all the customs selling for 50/60/100+ you never know what a car will sell for

    1. It's their car... except they made it and sent it to auction. The guy who sunk the money into it didn't make it his. So, imo, stupid. This blog is nothing more than my opinion on car stuff. What I dig, I post from respect. The way this T Bird looks is all respect. Just giving up on making it your car after wasting money on it? That's instantly stupid.
So this car got posted because of, and included, both respect and disdain in the post caption.
I don't watch B/J, it's a time issue. They take too much time and the results of the auctions are available without wasting all that time with their auction on TV.
It's a neat way to see a lot of interesting cars, but since I'm wasting so much time blogging, it's either blog or watch auctions.
I choose to share the cool stuff, and news, and etc, instead of watching tv.
I'd rather be on the road, but, since I don't know how to earn a living on the road, I'm tethered to a job and a place for my stuff https://youtu.be/JLoge6QzcGY like Carlin said

  3. I was going to comment about the point of building a car not always being about profit, but following the links, it appears the owner is a person who paid others to do the work, then put it on sale.
I have lots of cars that I have more money in than I could reasonably expect to get out, but I enjoy doing the work, and I build them for myself. I suppose my heirs, if they sell them, will make less than I put into them, but that is their concern.

    1. Right, it isn't. I spent 4 times what I sold my last car for, a 69 Super Bee... but rusty cars don't get much money... those that owned it after I sold it probably didn't realize the suspension, steering, and exhaust were worth more than they paid for the car.
Like you said, the owner didn't do the work, and can't sell it for what he has in it. Damn shame all around. He doesn't want it, but made it like it is, only for his own taste.
Might as well pay to have someone else's car fixed the way THEY want their car... he's going to lose that much money anyway, on someone else's car once they buy it!
