A couple she served at the restaurant on Tuesday bought her a new car -- just hours after they'd met.
The couple, who wanted to remain anonymous, were at Denny's for breakfast when they found out that Edwards was walking 14 miles just to get to her job and go back home.
The Texas couple finished their meal, left the restaurant, and came back with a 2011 Nissan Sentra and handed Edwards the keys. This car will turn what was a five hour walk into a 30 minute commute.
All the couple asked in return for the car was for Edwards to simply pay the good deed forward. And that's exactly what she aims to do.

Hooray for anonymous!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat ! Nice to see that there are still nice people in this world. Really great...
ReplyDeleteOne thing I don't get in such stories, often there is a "walking to job"... why you are walking? I get that there can be no public transportation in area, but simple bike would radically cut time of travel. She did not have cash for a bike... then how she will maintain a car, buy fuel and pay for insurance (car insurance is mandatory in US?)? If she have enough cash for that... why she don't own a scooter? So many reasons and possibilities to not walk that road to job but travel more efficiently and faster. I see people go to work on bikes all the time, only winter is a problem and I admit, car is then better option if you can't use mass transit.
ReplyDeleteOk... don't want to be sound like a dick, it's nice story and I'm happy that there are still people who will do such things for strangers.
I've posted several walking to work job stories, and you have a point, they will have to pay for gas, insurance, and so on... but - once you have a car, and don't have car payments, you are much more likely to get a job that pays better, have the time to look for a better job, etc.
DeleteIt's a big step to get a car, and without one, people must waste so much time to get groceries, to get to work, etc, that they don't have time to work out getting a better job... no time to go to an interview. No time to look for and apply for jobs.
But I do agree, it's frustrating to read, and wonder "why the hell didn't you get a damn bike!" Or a scooter.
I don't have answers, and must simply post and move on. Life is ROUGH on some people, and takes away the time they could use to work through problems.
Only once we've dealt with the big problems that waste our time can we begin to relax a bit, and enjoy some simple pleasures in life like art, music, movies, etc.
Until we get enough time and prosperity to enjoy living in such a remarkable time, it's pure struggle every damn day.
