It is my opinion that the Aztec should actually be praised and memorialized. The Pontiac Aztek was the last time that General Motors tried to be a trend setter, original and daring. It's just to bad that the marketing committees and bean counters had their dirty ways with it. I think the potential was there, they just managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory..
That's a good point. GM really hasn't done much to try anything new since the Motorama days... nothing was ever made of all those "futuristic" concepts, and it was all a waste of time and money, and they basically gave up. Then they tried the Aztec, and were drubbed thoroughly for not getting a success. Hell, when has a car maker done anything new and succeeded at it anyway? The Prius? None of the many efforts of Dodge Plymouth Chrysler were a success either, in the late 90s, early 00s. I liked that Prowler, but they didn't get the engine right, and it flopped
I found the Aztek as aesthetically pleasing to the eye as a sharp stick in the eye! To make it even uglier they had the "camper tent option" what a joke! Wow it just became a safari wagon. Hahaha. And your right on the prowler (which I LOVE the looks of)it was only available with a V6 and an automatic transmission. What a deal breaker!

ReplyDeleteFor the record, Mrs B had a Aztec. I liked it, but it had a tendency to chew up front wheel bearings. Good sensible car, easy to get in and out of.
