A car stopped in the traffic lane in Whiteout conditions during a blizzard, North Dakota Highway Patrol Lt. Troy Hischer said.
"That's the worst thing that you could do," Hischer said about the car parked in moving traffic.
But instead of citing that vehicles driver, the police cited the truckers:
The crash happened in whiteout conditions around 1:45 p.m near Bowesmont when an 18 wheeler rear ended a passenger vehicle that stopped on the interstate. Pembina County deputies were on scene responding to the crash when another truck hit one of the police cruisers parked on the shoulder.
Three other trucks became involved in a chain reaction crash after the truck hit the cruiser. In all, 12 vehicles were involved in the pile up.
The pileup is under investigation, Hischer said, and police are determining if there will be more charges filed. Charges won't be criminal, he said.
The point isn't to file more charges but to help drivers determine whether they should drive in dangerous weather and how to do so safely, Hischer said.

It seems that the police or a truck driver at the scene of the accident would be able to put out an emergency call on the CB to warn other truck drivers to slow down for the accident.
ReplyDeleteYou'd think so, except, I recall last winter several big pile ups caught on video, and no one had the presence of mind to do that. So, trucker after trucker, a couple dozen of them, all crashed into the back of the pile. Ridiculous
