Seriously? You think the material matters with the spare tire? No. It's "ugly as sin" visual wipes out any "But it's a revolutionary new alloy material made of Unicorn Tears and Tiger Venom!"
Spare tires are SUPPOSED to look ugly. That encourages the driver to fix the flat right away rather than just driving around indefinitely on the spare with a flat tire in the trunk.
The Viper, however, brings up another question: What's with the black custom wheels being the "in thing"? I can hardly until that fad ends.
Notice how much better the rear wheel on the Viper looks than the front. The front tire is black, the holes in the wheel are black, the lug nuts are black, and the dark shadowed area between the tire, the wheel well is black, the shadow beneath the car is black, and the asphalt is black. Just one big glob of black. Nothing there to break things up visually, the way a nice, shiny, bright metal wheel and (heaven forbid), a white letter tire would.
Now this is no big deal with a temporary spare tire, but any guy that spends $1000 or better, on a set of custom wheels, that from the same distance, don't look any different than that Viper's spare tire (black is black), is a complete moron.
Custom wheels must be made of bright shiny metal (or at least something that contrasts with black, like white spokes on 4x4 trucks) period! End of story!
You may think the Porsche wheel is ugly, but at least it's an aloy wheel compared to the steel one on the reptile.
