No, not brakes. Missed all of the arresting wires and ran into the barrier cables, which you can see wrapped around the front of the fuselage and wings. The cables would normally be raised well above the deck on arms (one of which can be see near the edge), they've already been lowered to aid in clearing the mess off the deck for more landings. A bit hard on the aircraft, but it was that, or a fireball caused by running into aircraft parked at the front of the deck. A common enough occurrence on aircraft carriers until the British invented the angled flight deck in the late 40s.
