Just heard about it, and since nothing returns on a Google search that doesn't confirm or deny this... but very few new words have an equivalent in other languages, and the English word just gets used

We called asphalt... «Asphalte». Still do.

ReplyDeletesomeone from quebec and here's his answer...
"Nope! Never heard of it although I wouldn't be surprised if it's been used at one time or another (on tv for example where comedians would often create new words like that, "just for laugh"), but never caught on."
maybe they mentioned in on SNL years ago in the "le shoe" commercials.
We call it blacktop, not so different
