the old fashioned car wash... because a lot of horse muck was getting stuck to the bottom of cars in the 1920's

The Neway Auto Wash Bowl was built in Chicago in 1924 by The Neway Auto Cleaning and Service Corp. The car was first run around in the pool of water to flush mud and dirt off of the undercarriage. It was then driven up into a stall and the car was washed in the normal matter to complete the job. 300-310 South Federal Street

  1. That is so cool! I had never thought about how they used to watch their cars. Man, I just love classics like these!

    1. these photos made me realize that this was another one of those things that I'd just never thought of, but find fascinating... in the time before modern conveniences like power washers, they had much worse things to wash off their cars... Glad you got a kick out of this post like I did!

    1. thanks! horses made a lot of smelly mess in the streets, and in a hot Chicago summer, I bet that must have been aggravating a lot of car owners that bought automobiles feeling they were never going to be bothered by horses again... but ended up with hot smelly horse crap stuck to their fenders, tires, rims, and chassis every day, all day long. A car wash like this must have been very welcome to get the filth and smell removed
