1942 DeSoto Fifth Avenue convertible

Terrific hood Ornament
Early hidden headlights behind those gray covers
Coolest steering wheel, it was designed to be helpful to smokers, the bottom section in the steering wheel is a cigarette dispensor
There were just 568 DeSoto convertibles built in the war-shortened 1942 model year

  1. Back in the early 40s, New Yorkers didn't have old Crown Victoria cop cars for taxi cabs, or even the lumbering Checker Marathons. They had 1942 DeSoto Skyway cabs... fold over headlights and a sunroof. Apparently old Wally P. built those with Manhattan cab service in mind. They look funny today, but they be too cool back '42.
