abandoned factory, abandoned box cars... it's amazing that millions of dollars of assets are walked away from, because corporations can write off losses. Ashuelot, NH

The box cars were not worth moving to a scrap yard, so they were abandoned, and the bearings and brakes aren't up to code, so they aren't worth moving, even if they could, for use on any rail line. Only a museum might be interested, and that's not likely unless they are loaded with cash.

  1. Thanks for explaining why we see these items abandoned. i always assumed that the scrap value was in them.

    1. welcome, I didn't know about the obsolete brakes, updated safety codes, etc that prevent the old stock from being used, I read about it at the source of the photos... the tax write off I did know about. I'm sure you did too.
Sure would make a nice lawn ornament on the abandoned rails in the back yard... the kids and grand kids, and great grand kids could make an epic fort out of it!

  2. well it about how the railway industry tax right off are . They make more money just letting shit sit then selling it on to 3rd world. Plus the cost of the regs means they ll not do that . it's why you see 15 to 30 year old stock just sitting around not being used. Cheaper to buy new and right it off. Even cost a hell of allot to scrap it .
