Intriguing that four-engined aircraft with swept wings were being depicted by cartoonists in 1943. The Soviet Tupolev Tu-95 was a rarity in that configuration and it didn't enter service until 1952.
William Steig (second cover) was a frequent cartoonist for the New Yorker, and did a whole series there of "Dreams of Glory," featuring the same kid. For those not familiar with Steig, he also wrote a bunch of childrens' books in later years, among them the original Shrek.
