Tamiami Trail was constructed in 1915, it was the road connecting Tampa to Miami, of course.

I've never heard of it either.

  1. Hard to imagine what a wilderness Florida was before the highways were built and the swamps were drained, and before air conditioning.

    1. I was stationed in Orlando for a year, and it's a great place in the winter, and everyone that can afford to, has the right idea about summers in the north, and winters in the farthest south... the Keys must be perfect in the winter before the hurricanes. San Diego is marvelous mid November to July. Then it's just hot until November comes back. I've stayed here since 1995 for the great low temps. If I was rich and could afford such things, I'd live on the Canadian border in the summer, way up in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and winters here in San Diego or the Florida Keys.... maybe the American Virgin Islands, or Hawaii.
But since I didn't win the power ball, it's not really going to be a problem.

  2. Tamiami stands for Tampa to Miami. Barron Collier built the road. He saw a need and bulit it. Collier County is named after him. He was one of founding fathers of Naples Fl.
