An Arizona law limiting how close people can get to police while recording them was declared unconstitutional by a federal judge

The  unconstitutional law would have made it illegal to film police officers within 8 feet of law enforcement activity if the officer had requested that the citizen or journalist stop filming. In addition, officers could have ordered anyone filming on public property to stop

U.S. District Judge cited infringement against a clear right for citizens to film police while doing their jobs in his ruling.

“The law prohibits or chills a substantial amount of First Amendment protected activity and is unnecessary to prevent interference with police officers given other Arizona laws in effect,” Judge Tuchi wrote.

Judge Tuchi suspended the implementation of the law last year. Now, his ruling permanently blocks enforcement.

In the time since the law was drafted and passed, too many police have murdered too many citizens and no one in the state legislature, no officials in law enforcement, even the bill’s sponsor, state senator Kavanagh said he was unable to find an outside group to defend the legislation

Why post this? It's to inform you of your constitutional right to record police while doing their jobs. You should be informed of your rights, and of the government and law enforcements illegal efforts to prevent you from using the rights you, as a citizen of the USA, have - which they find prevents them from committing crimes, assaulting citizens, and murdering citizens. (the cops that have been convicted of murdering George Floyd for example)

Without video evidence, in the hands of the citizens and families of the murdered citizens, would never go to trial. Often, even at trial, law enforcement are not convicted (Rodney King was assaulted, and the cops were acquitted at trial)
