Pike's Peak racing 2023 is in the books, and on the video clips

Robin Shute captured his fourth title in five years, driving a 2018 Wolf TSC-FS in 8:40.080 and nudged second-place finisher Romain Dumas, also a four-time champion, by more than seven seconds.

  1. I was curious about the siren sound when the electric cars left the starting line at the beginning of the video. The Pikes Peak rules say that an electric car must have an audio warning system that is a minimum of 120 decibels at 3' away from the vehicle.

I also found an article about a group that drove a Porsche Taycan EV from the lowest point of the Eagle Mine in the UP, at 540.8m below seal level, to the top of Pikes Peak in just over a day. The car traveled about 3 miles in vertical distance for a Guiness World Record. The article doesn't say how much time they had to spend recharging during that time.

    1. so THAT's why the annoying noise! Thanks! I wondered about that too
From Eagle mine? I grew up near there! But to the top of Pike's Peak, from the yoop? That's a long way, WITHOUT interstates, to get to Duluth to get on the nearest interstate to make good speed and time to get to Colorado to get to Pike's Peak... I wonder, did they mean a day, as in, 24 hours? I don't think it's possible to drive from sunrise to sunset even in the summer, and make it from Michigan to Colorado.
