You can't blame Elvis. He had a crappy manager who killed his career. Elvis' loyalty was his undoing. His manager picked terrible songs and worse movies because it was quick cash. Elvis avoided the confrontation that would have solved it. Using Elvis for the crap songs and films was like using a McLaren M20 as a shelf for boxes of People magazines. The whole world lost out in that deal. Similar for Steve McQueen, super overrated now, whose career torpedoed after he dumped his first wife for Ali McGraw. McQueen's persona was modeled after a young French actor that McQueen's wife picked, and the same wife picked his films and roles, until McQueen dumped her. Crazy guy who did some neat things but also a jerk. Many / most of his costars said the same. Garner did in his bio in no uncertain terms. McQueen was also famous for scene stealing against the script.
thanks for the perspective! I never thought much about how or why Elvis did so many movies, I thought it was because Elvis wanted to do them... There is certainly a lot to learn in this world, and I have a long way to go
No car as funny as buggy!
