A replica S.55X is now under construction in Italy.

one of the Savoia-Marchetti S.55 flying boats in 1933

One of the three vertical stabilizers and rudders has already received its cloth covering below, the work is progressing on the rest of the S.55X's empennage while the elevator is receiving its fabric covering.

Sadly, only one complete example of a Savoia-Marchetti S.55 remains, and it resides in the now-closed TAM museum in São Carlos, Brazil.

So, the Savoia Marchetti Historical Group is building a replica based on drawings and photographs.

The S.55X made headlines in 1933 when a squadron made a formation crossing of the Atlantic for a tour of the United States culminating in a lay over at the 1939 Century of Progress International Exposition in Chicago.

this is a cool way to end the day's work, a discovery of a living artist that paints 1930s era scenes of cool planes, trains, and cars, Peregrine Heathcote

Born in London in 1973, Peregrine Heathcote spent his childhood living in both Britain and Dubai where his imagination was free to flourish as he witnessed an international jet set culture. Hence it is no surprise that the artist’s imagery reflects a provocative Silver Screen theatrical quality. In 1995 Peregrine graduated from the Florence Academy of Art and since that time he has been profiled by the BBC in a documentary about his portraits resulting in international exposure.

Heathcote’s images of beautiful women stepping off bullet trains in addition to his Gatsby-esque characters embarking on luxurious voyages via vintage aircrafts and cruise ships, conjure a world of intoxicating glamour and intrigue. The artist uniquely blends a sense of nostalgia with the contemporary world while creating narrative stories in paint. Notably, he has exhibited at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Royal Academy, and Hampton Court. In addition his paintings have been auctioned at Christie’s Auction House, King Street, London.

1932 Boeing 4 person flying boat prototype

Boeing of Canada designed this small aluminum-hulled 4 person flying boat in 1931 and 32. The chief designer had came from Canadian Vickers and Saunders Roe and the aircraft showed little relationship to other Boeing designs. It was reported that the aircraft had excellent characteristics both in the air and on the water. Only one prototype was built and the airplane (owned by Canadian Airways) spent its life in British Columbia till 1942 when it appears to have been scrapped.
