A committee (the Medical Review Committee) of medical professionals, city representatives, and community members decided that helicopter landings at a children's hospital had to have EACH landing (only 3 a week on average) reviewed for NECESSITY
Under a conditional use permit established in the early 1990s, helicopters have been guaranteed access to the hospital for life-threatening emergencies, but less urgent cases have often been directed to a helipad at the University of Washington’s Graves Field.
Seattle Children’s said it handles three or fewer helicopter transports per week and that generally those patients are admitted to intensive care units.
