So, if you're renting from Hertz, make them scan the car, BEFORE you leave, so you have THEIR data on the car as it leaves, and they can't blame you for pre-existing damage from the last renter.

Hertz... seems determined to create their own bad publicity. This time, they insisted they fueled up a Tesla (electric car, but they claim they put over 270 dollars of gas into it)

Hertz acknowledges that the customer was charged for refueling an electric car, which isn't possible, but it's defended that claim on the basis that the agreed-upon "service was provided."

Hertz has apologized after a Louisiana employee denied a Puerto Rican customer a vehicle they'd already reserved, on the mistaken belief they needed a passport.

During the encounter with the customer at New Orleans’s Louis Armstrong international airport, the Hertz employee also waved over a law enforcement officer who allegedly threatened to turn the man over to immigration authorities

Marchand recently traveled to New Orleans and ahead of his trip paid to rent a car from Hertz at the Armstrong airport. After arriving, he went to the Hertz counter and presented his Puerto Rican driver’s license, which contained text in two languages spoken on the island: Spanish and English.

The clerk there then purportedly said to him: “We will need a passport.” Marchand told Begnaud that after he asked the woman what she meant, she made remarks that suggested he was from another country and therefore needed a passport.

“You’re denying me because I have a driver’s license which is a valid ID?” Marchand said in English. “It is a valid ID.”

Holding a clipboard and pen as she walked away, Karen turned around, pointed away, and four times said: “I need you to go about your business.”

Marchand replied: “It is a valid ID. It is a prepaid reservation.”

The Karen then said, “Would you like me to call the police?” Marchand told her, “Yes, please, call the police.”

The woman pulled a cellphone out of one her pockets and called out an officer who told Marchand that he needed to leave. According to Marchand, as the officer then left, he threatened to “call border patrol” if the mistreated customer didn’t leave, too.

Marchand interpreted that as a remark that he was in the US illegally.

Hertz caused many of its customers to be wrongfully arrested after it reported the vehicles they were renting were stolen, in 2020. Hertz has now reached a settlement in 364 lawsuits related to vehicle theft where they will pay approximately $168 million.

Hertz had claimed that these false theft reports were the result of its struggles with filing for bankruptcy. However, reports for falsely stolen vehicles continued even after the company surfaced out from bankruptcy in 2021.

Hertz is getting a lot of bad publicity today, an assistant professor at St. John's University School of Law ain't happy

 previous to this, and they haven't lived it down yet, are allegations that Hertz is apparently so bad at keeping track of its vehicle inventory that they reported cars as stolen whenever the company lost track of a rental--even when it was the companies' employees at fault. 

Now? It's maybe not that heinous, but it's still pretty bad

she arrived at a Hertz location in Brooklyn on time for her rental just before noon on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and got in a line with 15 other customers. After two hours, she was turned away after the Hertz employee stopped filling reservations. Apparently, the location closed at noon, despite having customers with confirmed reservations still waiting for their vehicles.

Klonick and her partner and their dog were told that they could, instead, get a vehicle at another location. After loading into an Uber, and heading to LaGuardia Airport, she was told that a rental vehicle was available but that they wouldn't honor the original reservation. Instead, it would be $1,800, or almost five times the price.

Just last year, rental-car giant Hertz was filing bankruptcy, selling massive amounts of inventory just to stay afloat. It has managed to make a comeback however, and recently placed an order for 100,000 Teslas.

Hertz is also building its own charging infrastructure as well as utilizing Tesla’s network of superchargers for customers.

Hertz Global Holdings Inc., barely four months out of bankruptcy, placed an order for 100,000 Teslas in the first step of an ambitious plan to electrify its rental-car fleet. Tesla Inc.’s shares soared, pushing the automaker’s value past $1 trillion for the first time.

It’s the single-largest purchase ever for electric vehicles, or EVs, and represents about $4.2 billion of revenue for Tesla, according to people familiar with the matter who declined to be identified because the information is private.

Tesla shares rose as much as 9.8%, the most intraday since March 9, to a record $998.74, making it one of only five publicly traded U.S. companies with valuations above $1 trillion. Hertz, which currently trades over the counter ahead of its relisting on the Nasdaq Stock Market, surged as much as 14% to $28.25.

A man wrongfully convicted of murder is suing Hertz for not providing the receipt that proved he wasn't at the scene of a murder he spent 5 years in jail for

 A Michigan man was recently exonerated of murder, a charge for which he spent nearly five years in prison. Now, he's suing a rental car company for not providing records that, his lawyers say, would've exonerated him earlier.

Herbert Alford was wrongfully convicted of second-degree murder in 2016 and freed in 2020 after the Hertz Corporation provided a receipt that showed Alford was renting a car from the Lansing airport minutes before the murder took place. Hertz shared the documents with the court in 2018, more than two years after they were initially contacted by Alford's lawyers. 

"Had the defendants not ignored and disobeyed numerous court orders requiring them to produce the documentation that eventually freed Mr. Alford, he would not have spent over 1,700 days incarcerated," Alford's attorneys wrote in a complaint obtained by CNN.

Uber and Lyft are having some unexpected effects, we knew taxis would take a hit, but who thought about the rental car companies? Hertz just lost 50% of stock value

The car rental company's stock tanked over 50% Tuesday morning after it cut its forecast for future growth and reported weak earnings Monday night.

It was the stock's worst performance since the financial crisis in 2008. And even though it pared back some of the losses by midday Tuesday, the stock was still down over 30%.

During a business trip in 1923 John Hertz, president of the Yellow Cab Manufacturing Co., set out  to Europe to gain new taxi company contacts to buy cars, though he saw the cabs and buses as “propagandists” in the drive to popularize American cars in Europe, as well as American-style systems for taxi business.

His trip turned out to be a great success. Hertz secured orders for 230 cabs for taxi companies in Paris, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Lisbon.

Back in the States, Hertz parlayed that success into yet another venture, purchasing Walter L. Jacobs’ car rental firm, which would later become the Hertz Drive-Ur-Self System.
