The Federal Highway Administration has quietly stripped bike lanes, speed cameras and several other best practices from a list of "Proven Safety Countermeasures,"
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy called them "DEI bike lanes" in a social media post earlier this month.
The FHWA says the changes to its website, which have not been previously reported, are part of a broader review of safety countermeasures to ensure they align with current DOT policies and the administration's priorities.

Is this a case of: eveyrthing I don't like/understand is DEI?
ReplyDeletenope. Bike lanes... do not belong near roads and streets... and bike are not even allowed on interstates. So, it's a case of them being added to a dangerous place. Hell, YOU know the proximity of moving vehicles is a danger to cyclists. No one is unaware that cars hit bicycles, and other cars, and trucks cause pressure waves strong enough to unbalance cyclists... and speed cameras are not enforcing laws, they are money makers. Police enforce laws. All other means of getting money from people is simply tax.

Well we have bike lanes as part of internal street-interstate-pavement infrastructure for long time and it increase safety of every user by far. When bikes have own "lane" they don't ride on street or pavement, that's actually is more dangerous as most serious accidents are collision between car and bike. With all accessible data separate bike lanes visibly increase safety and lower accidents numbers, cars don't ride on bike lanes, bikes don't ride on car lanes. Pressure wave are created above specific speed, in cities it's rare thing, on interstates bike lanes are mostly separated by "buffer" often in form of green lane or water trench. Of course it don't eliminate accidents, number of bike lanes users increase rapidly thru last decade, more dangerous became damn e-scooters that can be just menace to everyone. And I do agree that using "DEI" as kay word to make something sound "bad" has zero to do with safety, facts or logic... because what's next? Bus lines being "inclusive" for buses will be eliminated? Handicapped parking spaces? ect. And if you review an proven safety countermeasures to fit a political or ideological narrative to what place you will go if some politicians say that safety belts are dangerous (well they are in some way) and it should not be installed in cars... just to fit a "current DOT policies". You open up an Pandore Box lad... nasty things can get out.
