The “Auto Art” that Chicago artist Tom Strobel completed for Gage Chrysler Plymouth (Gage Park neighborhood Chicago) in 1966 for promotional purposes. These hand painted cars had an optic art vibe.

My mim hosted art shows at our home during this period and Ton Strobel was one of her artists. I remember him pulling into our driveway in what l remember as the “Zebra” car, as l thought of it. My folks were faitly straight laced people and as a ‘60’s teenager l thought it so cool to encounter an adult with an artistic bent. My sister still has one of his dramatic “industrial landscape” paintings. Cool guy!
ReplyDeleteoh WOW! You met the guy! That MUST have been exciting, from the typical normal straight laced lifestyle... to have that car show up and an artist arrive in house, somewhat avant garde. I had not heard of his industrial landscape paintings, and thanks to you, just looked them up.
