The Corvette driver was cited for careless driving, though the article seems to imply he passed out or had a seizure. Regardless, he came to AFTER driving UNDER the parked truck

  1. Judging from the grille, the Ford pickup appears to be a 1963 model, part of the 4th generation of the Ford F-Series. Note that it has the cargo box of the 3rd Generation ‘Styleside’ pickups of 1957-60. This is likely not a modification made sometime within the 60+ year life of the truck’s existence, but is instead the way the Ford Styleside models came equipped from the factory until sometime in late 1963.

The story is that the 4th Generation (1961-66) slab-sided Styleside was initially offered in a ‘unibody’ configuration in which the cargo box was integrated with the cab without a separation gap between the two. The more traditional ‘Flareside’ model with its narrower cargo box set between two distinct rear fenders continued to be offered, separated from the cab as in previous generations. However, many truck customers who wanted the sleeker Styleside design did not want the integrated design, preferring a separate cargo box instead. Ford’s solution was to utilize the separate cab still utilized on the Flareside version to the cargo box that was previously used on the 3rd Generation, resulting in that visual mismatch! Starting with the 1964 models, Ford offered the proper Styleside slab-sided cargo box that now visually matched the cab.

  2. I feel for the Vette owner but out of control is out of control and it could have been worse. The old Ford looks like it took it pretty well.

  3. Something is odd about this story. The Corvette has a temporary plate, with an expiration date of March 13. If that's a 60-day tag, he just bought the car a couple of days before the accident on Jan 16. Maybe it was more powerful than he could handle and he just lost control and made an excuse about the medical incident. And the article says that he just got out of prison after a 20 year sentence for robbery convictions. How does someone who just got out of prison afford a late model Corvette?
