while searching for clues tied to a 1970 cold case, a dive team (not the police who do not do this type of work requiring effort) found 97 cars in the Chicago River, proving that for the last half century, Chicago car thieves are never seen dumping cars

the Chaos Divers arrived at the Richard J. Daley Boat Launch on the city's Lower West Side, they were looking for clues that could help solve the mysterious disappearance of Edward and Stephania Andrews dating back to 1970, in a yellow 1969 Oldsmobile 442. In search of that one car in particular, they found not one, not two, not even three cars — but 97 vehicles between Cicero Avenue and Diversey Parkway in the Chicago River.

Though the Chicago Police Department has a dive team, it doesn't show up to earn the paycheck unless an underwater vehicle is impeding boat traffic.

And nothing in the news shows that finding 97 cars in the Chicago River motivated the police to check them for reported lost or stolen cars, nor the city to remove the underwater polluting vehicles.
