whoa, I stumbled across this behind the scenes video of Larry Chen interviewing invitees to a 7-11 commercial where 7-11 celebrates JDM culture

and when I looked around Youtube for the finished commercial, instead, I found this... from the neighborhood kids who went over to check out the scene while the sun was still up

a couple of times during this commercial, they show a Bronco, and point out it's been inspired by the Jeep

Elkann wanted the company to run a strong Super Bowl commercial for Jeep, something Francois has done many times in the recent past, like that one that had Eminem signal an economic resurgence in Detroit; the one where Clint Eastwood asked a post-recession U.S. to get back out on the field and play, because it was “halftime in America" and the one where Bill Murray re-created the movie “Groundhog Day” for Ram Trucks

Anyway, the article is a good read, and gets into what problems they had to contend with, 1st and foremost Harrison Ford wasn't motivated to do a Jeep commercial, or, any commercial. He doesn't need the money. 

2ndly, it was a 2 minute commercial, in a 30 seconds is 8 million dollars, and there were no available times to run even a minute commercial in the schedule.

Peyton Manning and a riding smoker/ lawnmower (nice, the shifter handle is a draft beer tap handle) with a 12 foot long cooler on wheels, got my attention during a Bud Light commercial

 

I'm guessing that there was a notice given to the people producing and directing this commercial... avoid anything that connected Bud Light to Dylan Mulvaney debacle with the 1.4 billion dollar loss in earnings in Apr 2023

Professional Stunt Granny! Yep, Weathertech made a fun commercial for Superbowl 2025, and it kicks off with an 8 track!

In the new Jurassic Park movie, the main characters travel to the island where the dino were recreated... and find a jeep that will run? On exactly what battery and gas? The movie takes place 30 years after the events in the 1st movie

 

Looks like it's going to be a great movie, ScarJo is just a terrific action actress, damn, I wish Renner was in it as her partner in the mission!

the McCulloch commercial I mentioned the other day when talking about the Dodge commercial that Don Knotts made

and they made the frame so strong that they hung a Beetle from it 

the steering engineering, very impressive! 

14 degree Ackerman steering

the rear axle unit was interchangeable, from single engine, to dual engine

then they drag raced a Corvette for 3 seconds... and the go cart beat it to 45 mph in 2.5 seconds

Racing go carts was serious Hollywood entertainment... I think you all remember the Steve McQueen and James Garner photos  https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2018/08/steve-mcqueen-bud-ekins-and-james.html they were enjoying cart racing during the filming of the Great Escape

Don Knotts was in a 1965 sixteen minute promo short film for Dodge, 6 years before he was the spokesman for "The Dude" (thank you George!) also starring Dick Wilson, (Mr Whipple) I doubt there's a comedian today who could pull off this role with such commitment

it's nearly time to buy Xmas cards, send out the presents, and avoid the post office madness that is the Christmas season
