ever heard of a Nurs-Ivator? I never have. It was made for cultivating between nursery rows and has a rear cultivator and tiller. Powered by a 4-cylinder Hercules flathead and 16" rear tires and narrow front end.
An update on this machine. I am now the current owner and it is tucked away in my collection in Tennessee. It is fully functional and operates smoothly. It is truly one of a kind.
what motivated you to collect most of your tractors, individually? Example this Nurs-ivator, or some other one, is it rarity, or part of an ensemble based on years made, uses, like the orchard tractors, or something like the relatively unknown brands? I've posted a lot of collections, and they usually are dead simple figure out, like they are all JG, or Farm All, or IH... but collecting this Nurs-ivator really peaks my curiosity about your collection, and your method/motivation/inspiration. How long have you been collecting tractors and what got you started collecting them?
Great questions. First what got me collecting was my dad and I restored my grandad's first tractor after it had been setting for 35 years. It had been in the family since 1949. It is a 1942 Case SC. When my dad passed in 2021, I got serious about collecting as a tribute to him. Today I have approximately 135 tractors. I have several different brands and started collecting sets of tractors. Mainly the case letter series and all the variations of each size, eg the S series , standard, row crop, orchard, industrial, and so on. Now I look for rare and odd tractors. I have some that are hard to find, but not necessarily valuable. For example, a 1926 Renault PE narrow. Of the 1774 PE made, less than 100 were the narrow version. Probably the only one in the US. I have a 1929 Greyhound, only 24 known left. Also a L'Argo, made in France, and the only one of the 12 known not to be in France. Also a Thieman, which is a kit tractor powered by Ford model A running gear. Other tractors are just because of my interest, or desire to own one. For example I am on my way to Michigan today to get a 12/20 Case crossmotor, a Minneapolis 17/30,and an Earthmaster highcrop. Then over to Wisconsin to get a Massey Harris GP. The Case crossmotor and the GP have been on my wanted list for a few years. As you can tell, I enjoy sharing about the pieces of history that I am caretaker of.
That you started with the family tractor, that's awesome! I wanted to restore my grand fathers Allis Chalmers B, https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2018/01/does-anyone-recognize-what-manufacturer.html but after he passed, grandma sold it, and the farm, separately. To me, that's a matched set of sentimentality. Anyway... 135 and growing! That's great! I have posted a lot of tractors, and a lot of tractor stories, and find them fascinating. So often it's something only people who have ever been around a farm are even aware of, the rest of mechanically inclined people seem to limit their awareness to cars, trucks, motorcycles. I get that too, but, it's just amazing the great stories and designs in the tractor world, and the history is just as long as cars/trains/bikes. So, there are such interesting old ones to learn about for the first time, like the Gray, the Indy 500 garden tractors for moving the race cars, the kids and schools that do a restoration project, or ride your tractor to school day, plus the hand made kids sized tractors that are perfect! And the Pavesi with the extra traction wheels, the wind up American Austin, the Montana hay sliders, the Line Drive power unit, the British Xmas parade tractors, the 58 Lamborghini Agricole DL 30C, the Porsche Orchard, the Lanz Alldog, the Peoria, the MM UDLX that looks like a car, that really impressed me, and still does, with it's interesting design, as well as the Cat DW 10, but the Gray drum drive stood out to me as quite unusual in design... getting away from the 3 or 4 wheels standard. And the few racing tractors that were made as part of whiskey advertising were pretty fun too! Anyway, it's great to chat with someone who is a huge collector and enthusiast! Thanks! Have you put photos of your collection online?
oh, I just realized, I'd been going on about the many tractors I've been fascinated by, but hadn't mentioned that if you'd like to look through them, they are all at one link, https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/search/label/tractor there are 600 of them posted
Everything gets on put on my Facebook page as soon as I load them. I would send you some pictures of some of the more rare, but I am not sure how to do that.
