The camper, produced by Compact, Inc., is the first of its kind to be introduced in the United States. The sleek, low-profile addition is easily mounted and expands into a 6-foot camper.
interesting how Getty watermarked the same photo, but with more photo above the car than below it
and what seems obvious, is that you can't put anything over the engine cover, such as they designed in the concept drawing, because not only is it aircooled, you just might want to add oil:
but they caught on quick, and redesigned it for use on multiple vehicles and car shapes
Open for camping, a 6-foot door allows easy entrance and exit. The camper, only one of its kind in the United States, will be introduced today (January 7th) at the Sports-Vacation-Travel-Recreational Vehicle Show in Los Angeles' new Convention Center.

I live in New Zealand and am lucky to own an early Kangaroo Camper. We can only assume it came here as a 'container filler'. Many here have visited the States, brought up American cars and shipped them here. I first found my unit as an original looking mess out the back of a car sales yard. I'm really keen to hear from anyone with any information on these campers because after many Internet searches all I can find is on this thread already.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is 6 years old. There isn't much online about rare stuff, but, the internet is still young, only about 25 year sold, and there is a lot that still needs to be uploaded and put online
