the Daily Timewaster just posted this : Tazio Nuvolari | Moto Vitelloni, and thanks to Robert Menking, I learned the history of this car, the Porsche type 360 Grand Prix designed by Cistalia in Italy, built by Porsche
the history of the Cistalia Porsche at https://www.stuttcars.com/porsche-type-360/
It was designed on behalf of Cisitalia by Porsche between 1946–47, and is therefore also known by its Porsche project number, Typ 360.
At the same time there was one Austrian-born former racer and self-taught engineer Karl Abarth living in Italy who wanted to work with racing machines as the war was over. He contacted Ferry Porsche. Abarth knew the Porsche family through his wife who used to be the secretary to Anton Piëch (husband of Ferdinand Porsche’s daughter and Ferry’s sister Louise). In Italy, Karl Abarth had became Carlo Abarth – a name every auto enthusiast knows. In the end of September 1946, Abarth became Porsche engineering company’s representative in Italy.

things from the Swayze/Reeves original Point Break that would be epic to own... the Porsche that Lori Petty's character drove, or the Mach 1 that Keanu's character drove... or the guitar Patrick Swayze was tuning!
This now causes me to wonder, did this result in Keanu asking for his John Wick character to have a Mustang?

Ken Miles, Cooper Porsche, Palm Springs, 1957
I posted about the car 15 years ago... how weird to say "oh, just happened to have learned about this 15 years ago, and did a decent job putting the info on this blog"
15 years... that's a LOT of years

seen on today's walk...
This makes the 2nd 914 I've found in this neighborhood... but that's a flat front tire on the passenger side front.
what the hell is the deal with this license plate? Yellow on black would be right for this era, but this sequence isn't the 3 letters followed by 3 numbers that would be proper for this year. Must be one of the new re-issued plates, which are fine for new cars, but, it's all wrong for the cars in the 60s to have the right color plates, without the right alphanumeric sequence
this car has been parked so long, the tire dry rotted and went flat, on BOTH SIDES on the back. I think it's a beemer

Porsche literally took an image of a predecessor model’s headlight and scaled it up until it dwarfed the smaller, real unit to disguise the actual appearance of the new model
Porsche clads its prototypes in flat black and then places stickers that look like headlights and taillights over the vehicle’s actual lighting.
These faux designs have the effect of disguising the car’s actual fascias from a distance,
That’s exactly why the Cayenne EV prototypes have Hyundai-esque pixel-light decals on the back, according to Porsche itself.

what is cooler and more interesting to find on the walk... a neglected 68 Mustang? Or a 912 Porsche?
according to Google Street View, it's been in that spot, under a car cover, for over 12 years.
In 1967, the primary difference between the Porsche 911 and 912 was the engine: the 911 used a 2.0L flat-six (~130hp), while the 912 used a 1.6L flat-four (~90hp) derived from the 356SC. The 912 was roughly 200 lbs lighter, better balanced, and more fuel-efficient, offering a more agile driving experience compared to the faster, more powerful 911.
the 911 had 5 gauges and carpet, the 912 had 3 and rubber floor mats
911s often had superior braking (ventilated vs. solid rotors on the 912) and different sway bars.

Did you know that some new cars won't shift into Neutral unless the engine is running? new Porsche GT4 Porsche GT3 RS
There’s no neutral release or anything like that.
The only way you could release it is take apart the trunk of the car, access the transmission, and use a special tool that’s provided by Chevy to be able to put the car in neutral so you can push it.
This tool costs about $200.
And this guy? Has had the worst of luck, in cars. Don't feel too bad for him, he's stinking rich. He bought a new Porsche GT4 after owning a Porsche GT3 RS, and his new Porsche GT4 required an engine warranty replacement. His GT3 RS had issues and was out of warranty. His Corvette chewed through an engine in it's 1st 7000 miles, and got a warranty replacement engine

a 914 convertible, something Porsche never offered during the early 70s when US legislators were getting serious about safety and automakers feared the country might ban convertibles altogether.

for some reason the Porsche 550 scene in the movie Sin City doesn't show up online
there are a couple scenes where Wendy uses the Porsche to run into Marv, a couple times, then after a different scene, they are driving in the Porsche, and those for some reason, don't show up online.
Anyway, cool movie, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Elijah Wood, and surprisingly, a great cameo by Rutger Hauer. Lots of other stars, Madsen, Del Toro, Rosario Dawson, Jessica Alba, and Michael Clarke Duncan
