that was Guy Martin on the Locomotion, the 200th anniversary celebration of the earliest passenger train's first journey along the Stockton and Darlington Railway. (thank you Stephen!)

For over a year, Guy helped with the re-build of a replica of the original locomotive, and exactly 200 years after that historic trip, Guy joined the crew on the footplate of Locomotion No 1 as it sets out once more on the 26-mile journey.

Hmmm, I think it's likely that a good argument can be made that a great tour of pubs could be enjoyed by only stopping into the ones that are owned by celebs... you know about Clarkson's, and May's, but have you heard that Guy Martin bought one?

 

I realized the other day that I haven't heard about anything that Guy Martin's been up to for about 36 months, so I decided to look and see what he's been up to, and learned of the pub first.

It even has a Wall of Death! 

Then, I learned about the WW2 Lancaster bomber that he recently made a show about:

In June of 43, a Lancaster bomber was shot down in the Netherlands, and crashed in IJsselmeer lake. The bodies of 4 crew members washed ashore, but three airmen were never found – their remains assumed to still be in the wreckage of the plane.

In the summer of 2024,  the Dutch government funded attempts to recover the bomber from the lake, and find those missing airmen.

Guy helped build a massive caisson around the crash site, then it was drained to reveal the Lancaster for the first time in 80 years.

Guy Martin and the Project 100 team have been developing a streamliner for the 2023 land speed record season to beat the current 376-mph land-speed record (from 2010), with the streamliner they call the 52 Express, at Bolivia’s Uyuni Salt Flat

Powered by a Rolls-Royce Gem-42 Turbine lifted from a Westland Lynx military helicopter, the 1,200-horsepower machine also benefits from aero-grade metal tubing.

The monocoque aluminum cockpit saves weight, and two parachutes help bring the streamliner to a halt.

On the first day of testing, which was the 17th of November 2021, Martin only executed sub-90-mph runs, with the team focusing on braking distances along with system and safety checks. The second test day upped the pace to 150 mph

In 2016, Guy Martin set a record at Bonneville for the Triumph company, setting a record of 274.2 mph which was the fastest any Triumph bike had gone.

one cool motorcycle, a 'Honda Six' made for less than the cost of buying the genuine bike’s front wheel ( thanks Steve! )

Allen Millyard has now produced this RC374: his tribute to Mike Hailwood’s race-winning RC166. And he’s built it for less than the cost of buying the genuine bike’s front wheel!

"It all started when I met Guy Martin at Castle Combe last July and he was parading one of the originals," says Millyard. "I’ve always fancied one but the price is out of my league. Riding home I started thinking: where can I get a couple of engines?

"So I called DK Motorcycles. I was after the Honda NC23 ‘Baby Blade’ engine but they’re so rare, so I went for the Yamaha FZR250R because they rev to 18,000rpm. It took from July to October to rebuild it as a six and get it running."

Unbelievably, Millyard’s technical information all came from a book full of photographs meant for model makers. From those photographs, he calculated the scale then worked out the dimensions for the bike.

To celebrate our 150th anniversary, Morris Lubricants has launched the "Talisman Tour". This has seen Alex Sharphouse of Old Hall Farm building a Talisman B6 Steam Road Locomotive from scratch. He's got some help from friend and Morris brand ambassador Guy Martin.

Guy Martin is to race against Jenson Button in Ayrton Senna’s first-ever Williams for a new Channel 4 show.

Martin is to restore the Williams FW08C chassis in which Keke Rosberg won the 1983 Monaco Grand Prix and which Senna drove for his first Formula 1 test at Donington Park later that summer.

Once the car is complete, Martin will then take part in a race against Button at this year’s British Grand Prix.

The restoration project and race will be filmed for a new documentary called 'Speed with Guy Martin: Classic F1 Driver'

Guy Martin spent 5 months building a working replica of a World War One tank, passed his tank driving test, just to drive the machine at Lincoln's Remembrance Day parade (origin town of the tank) and then police freaked out that a tank, 4mph, would be on the city street.

For Martin's tank, the team created a 3D computer-aided design based on photographs provided by German model ­expert Thorsten Brand – as well as using a Haynes Workshop Manual.

The steel chassis was welded together by a team at JCB’s factories in Staffordshire.

Then Herts-based engineers Chasestead Ltd manufactured more than 360 components, from gun mounts to ­periscopes, using ­computer ­technology the original makers could hardly dream of.

His five-month mission to build the 26ft long by 10ft wide replica from scratch was shown on the Channel 4 programme Guy Martin's WWI Tank on November 19.

However the plan to drive his WW1 tank through Lincoln city centre was scrapped because the police were "not happy".

The city of Lincoln has long been recognised as the home of the tank; the place where the armoured vehicle that transformed modern warfare was first developed. So it seemed fitting that there should have been plans for a replica of the Mark IV British tank to take part in the city’s Remembrance Day events.

But those plans have now been scrapped on health and safety grounds, after fears the tank might pose a danger to shoppers.

Lincoln City Council said it could not guarantee the safety of of shoppers and sightseers congregating in the area if the tank had joined the parade because of the size of the vehicle and its lack of maneuverability.

The police say the safety committee required extra safety and security measures, and I think it all sounds like a money issue was brought up where the local council required local businesses to profit from extra security people, traffic directors, parking attendants, trash removal, traffic barriers, etc etc from the extra amount of tourists that would be lured to Lincoln by the filming of a internationally televised event, and rare opportunity to see a WW1 tank roll through main street. The tv people declined to entertain that, instead, filming a similar piece in France.

Craig Bowness, from Welton, wrote on Facebook: "I’m just one of the many that are extremely disappointed, confused, disheartened in the horrendous decision not to give Lincoln and it’s fantastic war efforts a bit of limelight on this show that was primarily made to use Lincoln as its number one focal point.
